Things have been crazy as usual since getting back from the USPSA Back to Back Nationals and the IDPA Nationals last month. I have wanted to write about my IDPA experience, but am only now getting the chance.  I had a great time at the match.  In fact, I can’t think of a better way to get back into IDPA! It has been a couple of years since I have competed at the Nationals and I felt a bit rusty.  Nestled right up against the USPSA Nationals, I knew I …

What a week!  I had such a great time at this year’s World Speed Shooting Championships in Piru, CA. Seeing old friends and meeting new ones is one of the main reasons I love competing.  This was the first year I have been to the event since it was acquired by USPSA so in addition to all the familiar faces, many of the fine folks from Sedro Woolley were there too.
The last time I competed at the Steel Challenge was 2006, so I wasn’t sure how I would stack up …

The 30th Anniversary Bianchi Cup is over, but I know the memories will stay with me for a lifetime.  I love this match and it is one of my all time favorites.  I think part of the reason is that, unlike many other action shooting sports, there is a perfect score to attain.  Knowing what that score is and being able to work towards it is a great motivator for me.  This combined with the pure excitement of watching the best shooters in the world compete, knowing exactly what they …

It was another great day at the range.  I shot the Plate Event and was squadded with the reigning world action pistol ladies champion, Helen Jeavons and USPSA/SCSA ladies champion Jessie Abbate.   There are so many lady shooters this year!  My run went very well and I downed all 48 plates.
Other highlights - Rob Leatham cleaned the barricade in the Metallic Division arguably the hardest event for iron sight guns.  The contenders in Metallic will be shooting the Plate Event tomorrow and it sounds like it will be an exciting …

Just a quick update from the 30th Anniversary Bianchi Cup.  First off, HUGE congrats to my teammate Annette Aysen for winning the ladies title in the Nostalgia Match on Monday.  This is Annette’s first Bianchi Cup and she is already off to a great start.  Here is a photo of her shooting the Mover Event with her S&W Model 686.
No surprise, another one of my Smith & Wesson teammates, Doug Koenig, is also shooting *really* well.  Doug not only shot a perfect 480 score on the Barricade Event, but did …

Rob Leatham once again showed us all that he is officially a Single Stack 1911 deity and remains undefeated in 15 years!  Rob dominates this division in ways that cannot even be comprehended.  Even though Rob still came out on top the battle was heated.  Mike Voigt, Taran Butler, Todd Jarrett, my teammate BJ Norris rounded out the top five.  “Every year this gets more and more difficult,” Rob said in his acceptance speech and the top shooters certainly poured on the pressure.  Congratulations Rob, you live up to the …

Last week I had the privilege of visiting the Olympic Training Center (OTC) in Colorado Springs, CO.  Just pulling up to the OTC and seeing the bronze sculptures and the Olympic Rings gave me a sense of awe knowing that for many, the path to greatness happens right here.  As one of three centers throughout the United States, athletes from sports like swimming, volleyball, wrestling and shooting can be seen on the complex, training to become the best in the world.
I came to represent Smith & Wesson and Walther America …

Rob Leatham may be the DrillMaster (DrillMaster Shooting Club™) but his wife Kippi, is DrillMistress.  Multi-national champion Kippi Leatham and fellow top lady shooter Debbie Keehart host a ladies only practice at Rio Salado Desert Sportsman Club every month.  Rio is known as the “Mecca for Shooting” and holds just about every kind of action shooting competition.  Not only do you have the opportunity to shoot plenty of matches, the chances of you running into famous, talented shooters like the Leathams are pretty high.   For female competitors, adding the opportunity …
