5 Discounts & Free Resources to Check Out Now
We’re in week 2 of staying in as coronavirus spreads throughout the nation. As someone who works from home, I know how important it is to establish a routine and I’ve done my best to do so with my kiddos as well. We start with morning chores and then jump into school work at the dining room table. My oldest daughter keeps up with her core courses while my younger daughter reads, completes workbook pages, goes through flashcards and then spends time on the Scholastic website. In the afternoons we get outside to play with the chickens, work on our first garden, and get in that much-needed physical activity.
As parents, we’re striving for balance in these challenging times. I mentioned my concerns about excessive screen time in a previous post. Instead of spending time watching Disney+ or playing video games, we’re trying to make the most of our time with technology. I wanted to share some of the awesome resources I’ve discovered with you.
Financial Peace University – You’ve likely heard of Dave Ramsey, but in case you haven’t he’s a financial/investment guru and bestselling author who teaches people how to get control of how they spend money. My husband and I have been big fans for years. Dave has a radio show, podcast and hours upon hours of videos on YouTube for free. Right now you can access a free 14-day trial offer to attend Financial Peace University online too! Learn the steps to become debt-free and how to set yourself up for financial success even when times are tough. We’re currently watching the 6 lessons on how to teach your kids to make wise financial decisions.
Audible Stories – I like this resource a lot because it doesn’t involve staring at a computer or tablet screen. I have an Audible account to listen to books as I work out, but did you know there are Audible Stories for kids? If you can’t read to your kids, spending time listening to a book with them is a great alternative.
For as long as schools are closed, we’re open. Starting today, kids everywhere can instantly stream an incredible collection of stories, including titles across six different languages, that will help them continue dreaming, learning, and just being kids.”
Audible Stories
The best part is that Audible Stories can be accessed from virtually anywhere via stories.audible.com with no login, no payments, and no strings attached.
Kindle Unlimited (Amazon affiliate link) – I talked about the benefits of Kindle Unlimited in my post titled Homeschool Idea: Teaching Gun Safety to Kids & Coloring Contest. Kindle Unlimited allows you to download up to 10 free books in your library. It does have a membership fee, but you can try it out for 30 days for free. The app is an excellent way to get reading time in if you don’t have access to physical books at home. Thanks to Kindle Unlimited I finished 8 books last month!
Rosetta Stone – We have a debate going on in our house as to which language to choose to learn because right now Rosetta Stone is free for students! Will it be Spanish, French, German, Italian or something altogether different? No matter what though, I am looking forward to doing with my little ones as we learn together. If you decide to jump in on this offer as we plan to, Rosetta teaches kids “through immersion, making their new language accessible whether they are in kindergarten or prepping for college.”
Gracie Games – We’re big fans of Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). My kiddos have met Royce Gracie, my husband has trained with him and I’ve even shot with him on a squad at a local Steel Challenge match! Gracie University has a ton of information for adults and kids alike.
Our father introduced us to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu before we could walk, but, he didn’t formally ‘teach’ us any techniques until we were five or six years old. Instead, he developed ten playful exercises based on the fundamental principles of the art. He called these exercises ‘Gracie Games.’ At Gracie University, we introduce all children to the art with these games, and in this course, we will teach you how to play them with your child.
With our local gym closed due to COVID-19, we’ve transformed a room into a tumble zone where our kiddos can learn and play the Gracie Games. Though this course isn’t free, it is on sale and at a 20% Coronavirus Relief Discount ($24). Learn more about it and other training courses for adults too at gracieuniversity.com.
