Honoring My Dad & Back in Action with Pro Tips
August was National Shooting Sports Month!
I found my passion for shooting thanks to my dad, Pete Goloski. He taught me the importance of firearm safety, following rules, trigger control, hard work, how to practice, and sportsmanship. He believed in me wholeheartedly and sacrificed so much to give me the tools to succeed. My dad was certainly proud of my accomplishments, titles and trophies, but I think it meant even more to him how I have been able to reach so many and share our beloved sports.
Sadly, just a short week before we planned a family trip to visit my parents, my dad passed away. Since November he was in and out of the hospital with kidney transplant complications. I truly believe that his doctors and the hospital failed him. While there are no guarantees in medicine, there can be a dedication to health, care, and professionalism. Taking time for family and addressing these issues has been on my mind, in my heart and where I have spent my time the past few weeks.
It’s bittersweet that, during National Shooting Sports Month, my father left us for a better place. He will be missed but at the same time, I cannot think of a better way to celebrate his life. A man who volunteered his countless hours and leadership skills at local clubs and in USPSA and IDPA, he loved to shoot and help others. I know he knows how sad I am. He knows how much I love him and how grateful I am, but he’d also want me to carry on, doing all the things he taught me to do.
It wasn’t easy getting on a plane for “work”, but when that work is getting to share shooting and help others on their journey with firearms, it made it better. A huge thank you to the Shooting USA crew, especially Jim and John Scoutten for making it as simple and easy as it could be.
Dad often praised my dedication to sharing shooting with as many people as possible. He loved watching my videos, first on YouTube, then on Facebook and Instagram. Thinking about that made me realize I needed to get back to it. The first step,
Then I put together this little vlog-style video from my trip to Nashville. I hope you enjoy it and thanks so much for letting me share it and my heart with you.
