WATCH: First Match of the Year
Travel, food, match videos, fun social updates and more! That’s what you normally get to see from your favorite top shooters as they share their shooting season. This year, I thought I’d bring you behind the curtain a bit and show more than just the glamorous side. Shooting is a ton of fun, but to be successful there’s a lot of work that goes into it too.
Throughout February, I have been getting ready to kick off my match year. I’ve prepped guns and gear, ordered equipment, developed training plans and analyzed every aspect to meet my goals. It all led up to pulling the trigger in my first match this weekend. As much as I wanted to share all 192, or in my case 188, shots with you, I left the tripods and cameras home.
For this first NRA Action Pistol match of 2018, I needed to focus. It’s been such a long time since I have shot the Bianchi course. It’s been even longer since I have used an open gun to do it. Where picking up my Performance Center M&P CORE with a slide-mounted Trijicon RMR is an easy transition from my usual focus in the iron sight divisions, my Bianchi open gun is quite the beast! I say that lovingly, too. Long slide, comped, heavy with a shroud and Trijicon MRO mounted high above the slide, getting used to it and the timing for each event in the match is going to take some time. I went into the weekend excited to see just how much work I have ahead of me.
I have A LOT OF WORK!
As I said in the video, every journey has to start somewhere. Hopefully watching me in mine will help you feel better about your own! Let me know in the comments on Youtube or on social media what videos you’d like to see throughout the season and if you’re chasing your own shooting goals, I’d love to hear about them.
