WATCH: Is shooting a sport? Biometrics & How We Share Shooting
Recently I hit a milestone on Youtube, but it wasn’t as exciting as I wanted it to be. I hit the 20K subscriber mark and though that may not seem like a huge number, my “Shootube” peeps are a pretty awesome bunch, especially since those who use firearms responsibly have to deal with political bias and oppression from Google and the network.
When word hit that YouTube was changing its policies in a way that could hurt lawful gun owners and how they share safe, responsible gun ownership, I pressed pause on uploading videos to the platform. Then there was the recent strike blitz and censorship of channels like Brownells. It left me wondering not if, but when will my own channel disappear?
Facebook has been in the news recently too, and not in a good way. I do post more often there and so last week I thought I’d do something to benefit both audiences. I jumped on Facebook Live to share a breakdown of a video from the Safariland Expedition Pistol Match. After some minor edits, I uploaded a recording to YouTube. The quality isn’t the same and the live video lacks a certain polish, but I think it came out pretty well.
It felt good to break my hiatus from YouTube with a video that proves shooting is a sport. The biometric data doesn’t lie and as an athlete, I look forward to using it to improve my mental game and my physical shooting skills in training and competition. More importantly, I want to give the YouTube audience a chance to find shooting sports content on the platform. As a backup up though, this week I created a Patreon account. Let’s hope YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and future networks will continue to allow us to create, share and exercise all of our rights.
