WATCH: Making a Comeback in Action Pistol
Just 25 days to prep for a national championship, THE BIANCHI CUP, after taking 2 years off… Was I crazy? In this week’s video, I talk about why I chose to come back to one of my favorite competitions as well as the steps I took to make a comeback.
So many of us had to take a step back from the things we love last year. If you’ve felt the urge to return to shooting sports but aren’t sure, this video is for you. It can be tough to get back into the saddle but here are my tips to make it both productive and fun.
Tips for Starting or Returning to a Shooting Sport
- Listen to your body. Pay attention to how you feel to help you prevent injury and stay motivated.
- Pace yourself. Tied to my first tip, ease into training to help you build calluses and prevent injury.
- Make the most of dryfire. Use dry fire to help you build a solid foundation of shooting skills and techniques.
- Incorporate mental training. Whether it’s meditation or rehearsing drills, increase your potential on the range by training your mind.
- Give yourself time and grace. Anytime we take a break it’s easy to remember our past ability level and create unrealistic expectations. Goal setting is crucial for success, but when you’re just returning to a sport, you need to give yourself time to adjust and build.
