WATCH: My Classic/Single Stack 1911’s
Ah… The 1911. There’s something special about this iconic pistol that has maintained popularity all these years. The single stack holds a special place for me among my favorite firearms for several reasons. It was the first gun I became competitive in the sport of practical shooting as a junior shooter. It’s also the platform I was able to clinch IPSC Gold as an individual.
1911s are like Harleys.

I often say 1911s are like Harleys — You can get a great one right from the dealer and enjoy it or customize it to suit your tastes and style. In my latest YouTube and RECOILtv video, I’m sharing the three 1911s I took with me to France to compete in the 2017 IPSC World Shoot.
Yes, I brought 3 guns with me.
Yes, that may have been excessive and involved more paperwork for overseas travel.
As I said in the video, I wasn’t taking any chances for what could be my final World Shoot. If my main gun went down in the match, I wanted not 1, but 2 backups. Though my custom Pete Single 1911s are works of art, my stock S&W Pro Series 9mm 1911 is a workhorse. It may not be perfectly set up for my tastes, but it runs like a champ.
The modification to my out-of-the-box pistol I mentioned in the video is the Techwell System. It makes it so simple to change out the mag well to a larger one by replacing the grips. I used the IPSC TGO model magwell for mine. There are many different options for grip panels too.
As for the custom pistols, you can read more details at this post, Pete Single S&W Pro Series 9mm 1911 Gun Glam. I’ll be in the comments on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram if you have any other questions. Which one do you like best? Let me know.
