Reading & Pew Pew Tactical’s Best Firearms & Shooting Books, 9 in 2019
It’s been more than a minute since I’ve shared some Monday motivation. Back in January, I wrote about 9 things I want to pursue in 2019 that will help me to be the best version of myself. So far I’ve shared 3 here on my blog:
- 9 in 2019 – Inspiration not Comparison
- SHOT Show & Staying In Your Lane, 9 in 2019
- 9 in 2019 – Just add water
Today, I’m writing about another 9 in 2019 that ties in nicely with an accomplishment about books and reading.
The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
—Dr. Seuss
Growing up I was one of those kids who took a book everywhere. Reading was a way to escape and join characters on their exciting journeys. When I became an adult and a parent, with all of life’s distractions it became harder to read. Where it used to be so easy, I now had to make time for reading and so I began setting goals to read more.
When I first started setting reading goals, I didn’t count audiobooks. Now, I think that was a little unfair of me. After all, if the goal of reading is to either learn something or be entertained through an author’s work, why shouldn’t it count? Audiobooks I listen to have not replaced page-turners, but I’ve found a place for them. I listen to books in the gym, on the lawnmower, when I drive and all the time I can’t read.
At the beginning of this year, I challenged myself to read or listen to at least 19 books in 2019. To track it I set up a page in my bullet journal and signed up for Goodreads.com’s reading challenge. I do my best to find a balance between book genres between those I enjoy as pure entertainment with others that will help me learn and grow. For those of you who are looking to improve your shooting, Pew Pew Tactical has compiled a list of excellent shooting books and I am honored to be included!

Writing SHOOT: Your Guide to Shooting and Competition was such a “pinch me” moment. As a kid, I didn’t just love to read, I dreamed of becoming an author one day too. I’m grateful to my agent and Skyhorse Publishing for giving me the opportunity to share shooting sports through writing. If you know anyone who’s looking for a way to get started in competitive shooting or wants to learn more about the sports out there, please check it out.
Making this “Best Firearms & Shooting Books” in 2019, with my first book is an honor. If you are looking at reading or sharing it, please do note that this book was published in 2012. Some details in specific shooting sports have changed. Shooting sports are constantly evolving for the benefit of their competitors with rule changes, division additions and more.
As many of you know, since SHOOT, I’ve also written a children’s book about gun safety. I plan to keep on writing too so please stay tuned for more. Again, a huge thank you to Pew Pew Tactical. Be sure to check out the other great books on their list too! It’s never too late to start reading more.
