WATCH: Single Stack/Classic Gear & Range Bag Essentials
Last week on Youtube and RECOILtv I shared my Single Stack and Classic Division 1911’s and the main pistol I used to compete in the 2017 IPSC World Shoot. This week, I’m sharing my other gear for competing in practical shooting.
Gear Breakdown
I’m not just a member of Team Safariland, I am a fan. I’ve been using the ELS System for years, first in black, then in a custom-wrapped dusty blue. I’ve since retired my blue rig and am working from a neutral belt and holster these days. The concept is the same.

Federal Premium Syntech is my go-to for practical shooting these days. It’s super clean. As I mentioned in the video, I really like shooting heavier bullets because of how the recoil impulse feels. The 150-grain Action Pistol load is my favorite 9mm load.
Here’s the list of gear I mentioned in the video.
- I’ve switched hearing protection to Caldwell muffs and plugs.
- Rudy Project Tralyx eye protection
- Tipton cleaning kit (Amazon affiliate link)
- Safariland backpack
- Smith & Wesson Hat
- Towels – 20 pack or 6/12 Pack (Amazon affiliate link)
- Knee pads (Amazon affiliate link)
