WATCH: What is IPSC & World Shoot Highlights
During COVID I’ve spent a little time on digital declutter and one of the major areas I needed to work on? Cleaning up the hard drive on my computer! I never got around to uploading match video from the World Shoot and seeing as how this year’s World Shoot has been rescheduled for 2021, I thought it might be fun to revisit the 2017 IPSC World Shoot in France.
In my latest video, I’m sharing snippets from the match in a highlight reel as well as answering a common question I get from shooters – what makes IPSC different than other shooting sports like, USPSA?
What is IPSC?
IPSC stands for International Practical Shooting Confederation and it’s the parent body for USPSA, the United States Practical Shooting Association. Well over a hundred countries from around the world compete in this fast-paced action shooting sport. In practical shooting you draw from a holster, reload, and shoot a variety of steel and paper targets based on a specific stage briefing. It’s a problem-solving sport in that you have to figure out the best plan for you, your firearm and it’s capacity. Head on over to ipsc.org to learn more.
Differences Between IPSC & USPSA
Not all matches in the US or abroad are the same but here is a list of some of the ways that USPSA and IPSC tournaments differ from one another:
- Stage round counts
- Targets
- Weight on accuracy
- Target distances
- Number of targets per shooting position
- Time to walk stages
- Duration of major tournaments
- Ceremonies (opening and awards)
